Flying with kids

When flying with kids …

  1. Check with the airline, their baggage allowance and boarding policy as this can make your holiday less stressful. If you travel with a baby with just a 15kilo baggage allowance, this can be stressful when they tell you that you have to make your way to another desk to pay the access and then return to be checked in!
  2. If you are travelling on your own, consider using a harness around the airport for smaller children as you will be distracted when checking in and baggage reclaim.
  3. If you are travelling with an infant under two, they will travel on your lap for free or for an administration fee, however some airlines allow you to take your car seat on the flight. This is particularly handy when taking long haul flights and/or if you need your car seat at your destination. You would pay a child fare for the seat.
  4. Take a sling / baby carrier if travelling with infant, as often you need to walk along way to the conveyor belt to collect your buggy.
  5. Try and get your children to use the toilet before the hostess trolleys come down the aisle as once they come, they are around for a long while!
  6. Remind your children to not make jokes about bombs.. it is illegal and can cost you time and money!
